Russell Ware

Russell has been obsessed with cell phones since 1994 when, at the tender age of 18, he took on a second job just to save up enough money to buy a Nokia 2110. In the years that have followed, he has owned more than 50 different handsets, often changing phones twice a year. Russell currently owns an ageing Nokia 9500 Communicator, a HTC Sensation XE, a Samsung Galaxy S3 and an iPhone 4S, as well as a drawer full of old handsets that are better off forgotten.

Russell began writing about technology in 1998, starting out writing about video games and consoles, before moving on to cover computer hardware, cell phones and smartphones. Since then, his work has been published in more than 30 different magazines and books, in several countries and in at least three different languages.

Some of the magazines and books Russell has written or contributed to include The Beginners Guide to Android, BlackBerry for Beginners, The Definitive Guide to iPhone 5, Beginners Guide to iPad and The Android Apps Review Guide.

For me, it is all about discovery. Getting a new phone in my hands and finding out all the cool, useful or entertaining things it can do can keep me quiet for days. I also truly enjoy showing friends and family what they can do with their gadgets and, in particular, their mobile phones and tablets. With all the great things you can do with phones these days, it always makes me feel a little bit sad to discover someone using a Samsung Galaxy S3 just to make calls and send SMS messages. I hope to make these pages a place where anyone can come to learn more about getting started with the cell phones they own or plan to buy.
