Have you ever sent the same email to more than one person with but a few words changed? Or sent the same email to the same person a month later with nothing more altered than a date? Have you ever sent the same email more than once?

Perhaps you wanted an easy way to re-use an address list from a sent email's Bcc: list or experienced an email being bounced back to you as undeliverable even though you thought the problem has been fixed. Maybe the original recipient lost your email and asked for another copy.

Fortunately, if you ever need to resend an email in Outlook and use an existing message as the starting point for a new one, you'll be happy to know that the process is fairly simple and straightforward.

What Happens When You Resend an Email in Outlook

Whatever your need for performing this task, you'll more than likely feel the sheer pointlessness of typing again what once — and possibly more than once — you laboriously typed already.

Microsoft Outlook (on both Windows and Mac), thankfully, lets you clone an email and send it again very easily. You will see the message just as it appeared right before you clicked Send when you first composed and sent it. Of course, you can make any changes to the message — to add or remove recipients, for example — before it is sent again.

How to Resend an Email in Outlook for Windows

To resend an email message in an IMAP, POP or Exchange email account using Microsoft Outlook for Windows:

  1. Go to the Sent Items folder for the account.
    1. You can resend an email in Outlook from any other folder as well; Sent Items is but the standard location for your sent emails.
    2. Outlook lets you resend any email, even messages you did not originally send. Do this only with caution, of course, and always make clear what you are doing when you resend a received message.
  2. Double-click the message you want to resend.
    1. You can use the Search Sent Items field to find the email you wish to resend.
  3. Double-click the message you want to resend to open it in its own Outlook window.
  4. Click File in the message's window.
  5. Make sure the Info category is selected.
  6. Click Resend or Recall.
  7. Select Resend This Message from the menu that has appeared.
  8. Make any changes to the message now, if desired.
    1. Do double-check the message's recipient or recipients in the To…, Cc… and Bcc… fields, especially if you are re-sending it to a different recipient or group.
    2. If you are resending a received email in Outlook, consider changing the From: email header to your email address using the From drop-down menu. If you re-send with the original address in place, chances are the email will be blocked as a forged message by many a recipient's email service.
  1. Click Send.

How to Resend an Email in Outlook Mail on the Web (Outlook.com)

Unfortunately, Outlook Mail on the Web at Outlook.com does not offer an easy command to resend an email. You can still work around that limitation, though, and resend an email fairly easily.

To "resend" any email in Outlook Mail on the Web at Outlook.com:

  1. Click on the message you want to resend with the right mouse button.
  2. Select Forward from the context menu that has appeared.
  3. Enter the recipients to which you want to resend under To.
  4. Remove "Fw: " from the beginning of the original email's Subject line (Outlook Mail on the Web has automatically inserted that).
  5. Now delete all text automatically added to the beginning of the original email.
    1. This includes empty text, your Outlook Mail on the Web signature and, following a horizontal line, a few essential header lines from the original email (From:, Sent:, To: and Subject:)
  6. Make any further changes to the email's content as you see fit.
  7. Click Send.
