Are You Having iPod, iPhone, or iPad Sync Problems With iTunes?

If you try to sync your iPod, iPhone, or iPad with iTunes on Windows, you may see the following error:

  • iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)

Solution 1: Using an out-of-date iTunes version can sometimes cause iPod, iPhone, and iPad sync problems. Upgrade to latest iTunes version, restart Windows, and then try to synchronize again.

Solution 2: Firewall software installed on your machine may be blocking iTunes.

Sometimes security software settings can be too restrictive and block programs that need system resources. To check if your firewall is the cause, temporarily disable it and try to sync your Apple device. Reconfigure your firewall settings if this was the problem.

Solution 3: Verify the Apple Mobile Device USB driver is working in Device Manager.

  1. To view Device Manager, hold down the [Windows] key and press [R]. Type devmgmt.msc in the run box and hit [Enter]
  2. Look in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section by clicking the + next to it.
  3. If this driver has an error symbol next to it, right-click it and choose Uninstall. Now, click the Action menu tab at the top of the screen and select Scan for Hardware Changes.

Solution 4: Tweak the USB power management option. While still in Device Manager, and with the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section still expanded:

  1. Double-click on the first USB Root Hub entry in the list. Click on the Power Management tab.
  1. Clear the box next to the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option. Click OK.
  2. Follow steps 1 and 2 until all the USB Root Hub entries have been configured. Restart Windows and try to sync your Apple device again.
