For the longest time, cat videos and photos have dominated the web. It was assumed that cat people are naturally inclined to spend more time inside while dog people are more outgoing and spend less time online.

The common house cat is still arguably the number-one chosen animal of the internet, but dogs are right behind them, and not that far off. Perhaps the reason behind more dog-related content being posted and passed around the web has to do with the fact that dog people can go out and be adventurous while still being able to access the internet wherever they are from their smartphones. Or maybe we're sharing more visual content than ever before.

Just like Grumpy Cat and all the other famous cats out there on the internet, dogs are now becoming big stars online, too. Here are just nine of the most adorable and unique looking dogs of the internet as of this writing, some of whom already have millions of loyal fans and followers on social media.

Boo the pomeranian

Boo was one of the first dogs to really make it big on the internet. His owner set up a Facebook page in 2009 with photos of the adorable Pomeranian dressed up in different doggy outfits, showing him getting into mischief with his pal Buddy (his Pomeranian partner in crime). Before long, this famous Pomeranian was dubbed "the cutest dog in the world" and his page now has over 17 million likes. Maru is an adorable Shiba Inu who lives with his owners in Japan and is one of the most followed dogs on Instagram with over 2.6 million followers. Given the internet's obvious past obsession with the wildly popular Doge meme, it's not exactly surprising to see a dog of the exact same breed that's so insanely popular.
