There are 10 different versions of the NETGEAR WGR614 router but all of them use password as the default password. As with most passwords, the WGR614 default password is case sensitive.

Every version of the WGR614 also uses an identical default username of admin.

Although the username and password are the same for each version of this router, the first five versions (1-5) have a default IP address of while versions 6 and newer use

Help! The WGR614 Default Password Doesn't Work!

The default password for each version of the WGR614 is password, but if that doesn't work when you try logging in, it just means that you've changed the password to something else but have forgotten what you chose.

It's important to change the default password of any device, including the WGR614. However, the downside to that is that it's easy to forget it. Fortunately, you can just reset the NETGEAR WGR614 router to restore the username and password to the defaults I mentioned above.

Here's how to reset the WGR614 router:

  1. Make sure the power cable is plugged in and the router is turned on.
  2. Turn the WGR614 around so you have access to the back panel where the cables are plugged in.

Note: Depending on the hardware version of your WGR614, you may need to flip the router over so you can see the bottom. It really depends on the next step...
  3. Look for the Reset button, and then firmly press down on the button with something small, sharp and pointy, like a paperclip or pencil, for 10 seconds.

Note: If you can't see the reset button on the back of the router, check the bottom. Different routers have this button in different places, but they all have one somewhere.
  1. Wait for the router to reset - it might take 30 to 60 seconds.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the router and then reattach it after a few seconds so that the router will reboot.
  3. Wait for another 30 to 60 seconds for the router to boot back up.
  4. The router has now been reset, so you can login with the default username and password of admin and password. The IP address you use to access the login page will be different depending on the WGR614 version you have - reread what I said at the start of this article to see which IP address to use.

Remember that because you've reset the router back to its factory defaults, every customization you had made, not just the password, has been reset. This means if you had custom DNS servers, a wireless network, etc., you'll have to reenter that information to set it up again.

If you follow the link below to the user manual of your WGR614 router, you can see how to backup your router so that after you configure it how you like, you can save the settings to a file and then restore it back to the router if you ever have to reset it again. The section in the manual that talks about this are called "Configuration File Management."

What to Do When You Can't Access the WGR614 Router

If the default IP address for your WGR614 isn't letting you access the router, it most likely means that you or someone else changed it at some point for whatever reason. Fortunately, finding out what it changed to is really easy.

Instead of having to reset the router like you do with a lost password, all you need to do to get the IP address of the NETGEAR WGR614 router is find out what the default gateway is set up as on a computer that's connected to the router.

If you're not sure how to do that in Windows, see my guide on How to Find Your Default Gateway IP Address.

NETGEAR WGR614 Firmware & Manual Links

Every resource NETGEAR has on the WGR614 router can be found on the WGR614 Support page.

Note: That link will take you to the WGR614v1 support page. If you need to get to the support page for a different version of this router, pick the right version from the "Select a different version" dropdown menu.

No matter which version of the WGR614 you're using, you can download the most recent firmware with the Downloads button on the support page I linked to above.

Important: When you're downloading the firmware from the NETGEAR website, make sure you're on the right download page - the one that corresponds to the same hardware version of your WGR614.

Installing the wrong firmware can cause a lot of unnecessary issues that are easily avoided by just double-checking that you're on the right page.

Here's a direct link to the WGR614 manual for each version of this router:

Note: These NETGEAR WGR614 user manuals are in the PDF format, so you'll need a PDF reader to open them. The WGR614v4 manual is also a PDF but it's stored in a ZIP file.
