Update: Facebook announced its plans to stop supporting RSS feeds in its Notes feature back in 2011. Since then, users have only been able to post notes manually.

Facebook's Notes feature is one of the oldest features that's still around today. It's been a useful tool for users to post lengthy text-based content that doesn't quite look right (or fit) in a simple status update.

How to Enable Facebook Notes on Your Profile

Can't find the Notes feature in your account? It may not be enabled.

To enable Notes, sign in to Facebook and visit your profile page. Click the "More" option displayed in the horizontal menu found directly beneath your header photo. Then click "Manage Sections" from the dropdown menu.

Scroll down the list of options that pop up and make sure "Notes" is checked off. Now whenever you click on "More," you should see a "Notes" option, which you can click to manage and create new notes.

How to Create a New Facebook Note

Click + Add Note to create a new note. A large editor will pop up over your Facebook profile, which you can use to write your note, format it and add optional photos.

There's a photo option at the top that allows you to select a big header photo for your note. Click to add one from your existing Facebook photos or upload a new one.

Type a title into the "Title" field of your note and then type the content (or alternatively copy it from another source and paste it into your note) in the main content field. When you click to put your cursor in the main content area of the note (so the cursor is flashing), you should see a couple of icons pop up to the left of it.

You can hover your mouse over the list icon to take advantage of a few different formatting options. Use them to format your text so that it's displayed as Heading 1, Heading 2, bulleted, numbered, quoted or simplified plain text. When you highlight any of your text, you'll also see a small menu appear that quickly lets you make it bold, italic, mono or hyperlinked.

Beside the list icon you'll also see a photo icon. You can click this to add photos wherever you want in your note.

When you'r'e ready to publish your note, make sure you give it the right visibility setting. Publish it publicly, just for your friends to see or use a custom option.

Once its published, the people within the limits of your visibility settings will be able to see it in their News Feeds, and they'll be able to interact with it by liking it and leaving comments on it. Remember that you can always access and manage any of your notes from the "More" tab as long as the Notes feature is enabled.

How to See Facebook Notes from Other Users

New notes from your friends will appear in your Facebook News Feed when they post them for you to see, but there's an easier way to see them by filtering out all the other information.

Simply visit facebook.com/notes to see a filtered version of your News Feed that only displays notes.
