Facebook messages that aren't from people already "friends" with you will go into a separate folder, apart from your other regular messages. It's assumed that these are unwanted messages, so they're not put in with the rest of your regular, wanted messages.

Keep in mind that not all messages sent to this folder are considered spam or junk. While some might be spam, others could just be from Facebook users that you haven't "friended."

Recover a Message from Spam in Facebook Messages

The Filtered Requests section of Facebook is where spam messages are held until you manually decide that you want to contact that user.

The quickest way to get to Filtered Messages is to follow this link on Messenger.com. Here's how to do it manually through the menus:

  1. From the left side of Messenger, click the settings/gear icon. On Facebook, click the Messages icon at the top of the page near your profile picture.
  2. Click Message Requests.
  3. Choose See Filtered Requests (Messenger) or See filtered requests (Facebook).
  4. Accept the message request to move the conversation into the regular section of the messages and contact the user as you would any other.

Tip: You can find message requests from the Facebook Messenger mobile app too, through the People tab at the bottom of the app.
