Board Games You Can Play on Facebook

Play with a friend or new person in Messenger or Facebook

Facebook offers more than 100 board games in its Instant Games section that you can play on the Facebook website or in its Messenger app. Chess, Backgammon, Scrabble, Checkers, Monopoly, Reversi, and Tic Tac Toe are all familiar names. Play these Facebook board games with your friends right from Facebook or the Messenger app. Choose which friend you want to play against, make sure they're online, check their stats, and challenge them to a match, or tap the Instant Game button to play with a person you don't know (yet).

Where to Find Board Games

In the Messenger app, tap Games at the bottom of the Messenger list of contacts. Select a game from the menu, accept the conditions, and choose an opponent who is online or select Instant Play for a new opponent.

In Facebook on the web, select Games from the Explore section of the navigation panel at the left of the Facebook screen. Click any game you want to play. After you play a game, it appears in the navigation panel in the Shortcuts section.

Each game lists the type of information it provides to the game developer, so you know of any privacy risk you are taking before you agree.

Privacy Concerns

Apps may be able to access only your public profile, or you may be granting the game access to your Friends list and your email address. Some games message you with announcements and tips. Be sure you know the privileges you are giving to a game developer before agreeing to play.

Chess Pro

You're bound to remember this game where the objective is to capture the king. When you start Chess, you'll see a chess board on your screen. Drag and drop your men around the board. Then click on Play Move to make your move final. Then, sit back and wait for your opponent to make a move. There's a little chat screen you can use to send each other messages during the match too.

Backgammon Gods: The Boards of Olympus

Roll your virtual dice in Backgammon and move your pieces. With some luck and strategy you just be able to win Backgammon against another Facebook player. Select from your Friends list or opt for a multiplayer option. Don't forget to practice first by training your skills with Hermes. Once you complete your training, the game is unlocked for play on your computer or in Messenger on your mobile device.

There are several versions of the classic Checkers game for Facebook and Messenger. Choose an opponent and start sliding your pieces across the board and jumping over your opponent's pieces. Don't forget to announce "king me."

Dice Mogul

There's one board game that's been done over and over and made into all sorts of themes. Here's the Facebook version of Monopoly. In Facebook's Monopoly, you play against three other computer-generated players. Roll the dice, move your pieces and buy your properties.

Put up houses and hotels just like in the Monopoly board game. The money count is in the middle of the board, so you'll always know how much you have to play with. It moves kind of fast so it's hard to keep track of what the other players are doing.

Invite your friends to play or play Reversi with someone else. Look for the little green dots on the board where you can place your pieces. There's also a message board so you can chat while you play. Make as many of the pieces as you can your color, and you win. This is a high strategy game so put on your thinking cap.

Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tack Toe

Facebook includes several versions of this classic X's and O's game. Play Tic Tac Toe on your profile or your friend's profile. Once you add the Tic Tac Toe application, make the first move. Then come back later to see if one of your friends made another move. Play Tic Tac Toe with other people in the public section.

Scrabble Game

Your favorite word game, Scrabble, has been turned into a Facebook game. Now you can play Scrabble right from your Messenger app against your friends. Who's the Scrabble champion in your group?

There's More
