At Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February 2018, Alcatel announced three new series of Android phones including the Alcatel 1 series. The smartphones are entry-level and mid-range phones available around the world, but not necessarily in the U.S.

Notably, all fives phone launched at MWC have an 18:9 aspect ratio, which you don't usually see on lower-end models. This aspect ratio makes better use of large screens, especially those with slim bezels. The Alcatel 1 series is not to be confused with the Alcatel One Touch series prepaid phones, which are available through Cricket Wireless in the U.S.

The Alcatel 3, 3X, and 3V are similar looking phones in three sizes, and some differences in features and specs. The largest smartphone is the Alcatel 3V, which has a 6-inch screen with the highest resolution of the bunch. All three phones come with either 16 or 32 GB of storage and have a memory card slot. Each also has an 18:9 aspect ratio to make the most of their large screens. The dual cameras in the 3V and 3X enable the bokeh effect, which creates a pleasing blur quality in the background of photos.

The Alcatel 3X is right in the middle:

  • Dual 13 MP/5 MP rear camera
  • Ships with Android 7.1 Oreo

The Alcatel 3 is the smallest:

  • 13 MP rear camera
  • Released in April 2018

The 1X is the first phone in the Alcatel 1 series, and it comes in a few variations, depending on the market. Most run Android Oreo Go Edition, the OS for low-end phones, though some run regular Android. Some versions of the phone don't have a fingerprint sensor for some reason, while others do. The primary camera's resolution also varies. The 1X is Alcatel's entry-level affordable handset and comes with only 16 GB of storage, but it also has a card slot.
