Adding Contacts to Nimbuzz

Nimbuzz
There are several ways that you can add contacts in Nimbuzz. Nimbuzz

The best way to add contacts to Nimbuzz is on a mobile device. Since you have an account, your information will be synched so that you can access your contacts and message history on any device by signing in. You can add contacts via a computer, but the option to find friends is limited to searching for their name, which can be problematic (see below for more on that!)

How to add contacts to Nimbuzz on a mobile device

  • Download, or update the Nimbuzz app on your mobile device. It's worth tmaking a moment to upgrade in order to make sure that you're using the latest version so that you have access to all of the features.
  • Open the Nimbuzz app
  • Tap on the "Contacts" icon at the bottom of the screen
  • Tap the blue circle with the "plus" icon in order to access the menu to add contacts. The following options will appear.
  • Phonebook: This option is a little misleading. One would think that you'd have the option to communicate with people in your phone's address book through Nimbuzz if you select this option. In my testing, I was able to access contacts from my phone, but only had the option to communicate with them via a phone call or though my phone's native text messaging application. I was using an iPhone 6S. I wouldn't recommend using this option.
  • Search Friends: This option allows you to access a search box in which you can type your friend's name. The results can be problematic however, especially if your friend has a common name. Many results are displayed, making it difficult to know which one is your friend. When you do find that person in the list however, its easy to add them to your buddy list by tapping on the "+" icon to the right of that person's name.
  • Invite Friends: Based on my testing, I'm only a partial fan of this method. When you tap the icon, two options will appear: "Invite by SMS," and "Invite by Email." Selecting the SMS option resulted in a list of my contacts appearing, and when I tapped on the one I wanted to add, I was presented with the option to send a text to that person using my phone's native messaging application. By choosing email, however, I was presented with the option to send an email directly through Nimbuzz, complete with a pre-filled out template which explained the details to my friend. So, email option = good, text option = not so good.
  • Add Friends: This option provides the option to invite friends by their Nimbuzz Username. So, it's great if you have that information, but not so great if you don't.

Have fun chatting on Nimbuzz!
